Exploring books

'Tis the good reader that makes the good book; in every book he finds passages which seem to be confidences or sides hidden from all else and unmistakably meant for his ear; the profit of books is according to the sensibility of the reader; the profound thought or passion sleeps as in a mine, until it is discovered by an equal mind and heart.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Finding new titles and deciding on a book to read is not always easy. I have little time to do the thing I love most in the world and I hate wasting that time with a bad book. So, being amongst like minded people really helps a lot.

Goodreads is similar to a few other sites out there, but is just the one that found me first. Listing the books that you want to read, have read or are reading - you start to build up your book list. With book reviews and a bunch of other clubs and groups there will be one that tickles your fancy. I have found amazing books on here that I never would have heard of otherwise.
I especially like to compare my book list to someone else's and see our compatibility. Join a community of book lovers and share your passion for reading.

The ultimate reading chair?

"A good book on your shelf is a friend that turns its back on you and remains a friend."
~Author Unknown

Where is your favourite place to read? Do you have a specific spot that you've set up? Made it all comfy and checked that there's adequate light to read by?

This is chair designed by Nils Holger Moormann called the
Bookinist.
This is the description on the website:

"Bookinist is a movable chair designed especially for reading.
It is based on the principle of a pushcart and can be rolled to a favourite spot.

About 80 paperbacks can be stored ready for use in the arms and the backrest of the chair.
With a reading lamp and hidden compartments for writing utensils (reading-glass, bookmarks, pencil, pencil sharpener and a pocketbock are included) Bookinist invites you to read and think at your leisure."

It looks very cool, allthough I'm not sure how comfortable it is... what do you think?

What to read?

"A bad book is the worse that it cannot repent. It has not been the devil's policy to keep the masses of mankind in ignorance; but finding that they will read, he is doing all in his power to poison their books."
- E.N. Kirk

I always say that life is too short to read a bad book, or drink a bad beer, but that's besides the point. I use a couple of sites to do some research to find new (or old) titles and too try and determine whether its worth my time. So, this might help.

Bookseer is here to help find you the next book to read. The "Seer" ask you the last book you read/liked and predicts what other titles you might want to have a look at. It basically uses a few well known book sites to show similar titles.

Give it a try.

Send your book on an Adventure!

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
- Dr. Seuss

I came upon this site the other day, and I was really intrigued. The site is bookcrossing.com where you regsiter a book and leave it somewhere for someone to find.

A short summary about how it works from the site: www.bookcrossing.com

BookCrossing in 4 easy steps.

1. Pick one of your books-one you have read or one you haven't read.
2. Click on "register book" under the "My Shelf" tab. [If you can't see the "My Shelf" tab at the top of the page, you may need to log in to the site.] Follow the prompts to register the book and generate a BCID (BookCrossing ID).
3. Write the BCID in ink inside the cover. Add a label or write the BookCrossing info. you can add some additional markings, stickers, notes, etc to make the book noticeable, if you wish.
4. Release the Book

I really think this is awesome, now I just have to pick a book I like enough to share, but not too much and will be willing to part with it... gonna be tricky.

Neil Gaiman's Library

"Everybody has a secret world inside of them."
-Neil Gaiman

One of my personal favourite authors is Neil Gaimanm, some of his best know works is The Sandman and American Gods. Found this post that shows the man's personal home library, and wow, how cool that does look?

Hi, I'm Nicolaas, and I'm addicted to books...

"Despite the enormous quantity of books, how few people read! And if one reads profitably, one would realize how much stupid stuff the vulgar herd is content to swallow every day." — Voltaire (1694 – 1778)

I've long wanted to venture into the world of blogging, and never really felt that I had something worthwhile to say. There being millions of Bloggers out there, and such huge amounts of unnecessary information. But I love reading and books and all that goes with it, so much, that I'm willing to try my hand at a blog dedicated solely to this topic.

Interested? Cool... lets go...
